Your original files will be renamed with the extension B~K. The program will add a command that runs the WINSETUP.EXE program to your Windows 3.1 WIN.INI file. This program (WINSETUP.EXE) automatically sets up the Sound Blaster Audio Drivers and Windows 3.1 applications when you next run Windows. The procedure for installation is as follows: a. Run the program INSTALL.EXE from the DOS prompt. This program is found in Disk #1. b. Select "Begin Installation" and follow the instructions on the screen. c. Quit the installation program when it completes successfully. d. Run SBCONFIG.EXE to configure your card if you change the default DMA channels 1 and 5, or interrupt 5. To avoid conflicts with Adaptec 1542 card change DMA 5 to 6 or 7. e. REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM. f. You may proceed to test your Sound Blaster 16 card with the program TESTSB16.EXE located in the \SB16 sub-directory. h. If you chose to have the installation program modify your WIN.INI file, the Sound Blaster Audio Drivers and Windows 3.1 applications will be set up automatically when you next run Windows . Otherwise, follow the procedures below. i. Choose RUN from the FILE menu in Program Manager. ii. Type "C:\SB16\WINSETUP" and press ENTER. This is assuming that your Sound Blaster software is located in drive C. iii. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. iv. Restart Windows. NOTE ==== WINSETUP will NOT set up the drivers and applications properly if your BLASTER environment strings are incorrectly set. Please make sure that these environment strings are set properly before running WINSETUP.EXE. You may enter "SET" at the DOS prompt to check the environment settings. Refer to your Sound Blaster manual for more details on the BLASTER and SOUND environment strings. Normally, WINSETUP.EXE needs to be run only once. If the hardware settings of your sound card needs to be changed, use the DRIVER applet in CONTROL PANEL to change the settings of your Windows drivers. Refer to your Windows manual for more details on the DRIVER applet. 2. Quick Start for VoiceAssist IMPORTANT: The following is a quick-start guide for those who want to get up-and-going right away. For a more in-depth discussion, please refer to "Training VoiceAssist" and Using VoiceAssist" in the User's manual or on-line help. When running VoiceAssist for the first time, a dialog box will appear which says, "Please create your own User File and train the system with your voice...". Following are the instructions: To create a User File, copy either the generic male GENMALE) or female (GENFMALE) file shipped with VoiceAssist into your User File: i. Click the menu button in VoiceAssist's main window. ii. Select the "User" menu option. iii. Depending on whether you are a male or female user, select the GENMALE or GENFMALE file. iv. Click the "Copy" button. v. Type your name in the "as" edit control to copy the generic commands into your User File and click OK. vi. Your name should appear highlighted in the list box. Click the OK button to confirm your selection. Next, the generic set should be trained. Please do not assume that you will get acceptable voice recognition for all words using only the generic voice training. i. Click the menu button in VoiceAssist's Main Window. ii. Select the "Training" menu option. iii. In the Training Dialog click "All" to train the 32 words in the generic set . The Voice Training Dialog will appear. To start the voice training, click the OK button and say each word clearly. iv. When you've finished, the Voice Training Dialog will close automatically. Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the Training Dialog to save your training session. The final eight commands in the generic set consist of frequently used applications which can be run directly. Train each of the applications that you plan to use using the three simple steps below: i. Double-click the application that you wish to train. VoiceAssist will automatically run the application, load the application's commands, and position the listbox cursor above the application's first command. If VoiceAssist is unable to run the application, a message box will appear which says, Cannot Run Application". In this case, click the "Action" button, specify the full path to the application in the command line and click OK. ii. Click the "All" button to train all of the application's commands. The Voice Training Dialog will appear. To start, click the OK button and say each word clearly. iii. When you've finished, the Voice Dialog will close automatically. Click the "Save" button to save your training session for each application. VoiceAssist is now ready for use... enjoy! 3. SOUND BLASTER 16 MIXER CONTROL SB16SET.EXE ----------- The command line option for /FM is changed to /MIDI. SB16MIX.EXE ----------- This mixer can only be accessed when in video modes 3 (text mode having 80x25 screen in 16 colors) or 4 (graphic mode have 40x25 resolution in 4 color). If you are using any mode other than these, a single line version of the mixer will appear. No mixer control is available if a video mode above 13h (Enhanced video mode ) is selected. 4. CREATIVE SOUNDO'LE Creative Soundo'LE uses the hard disk as the working space. Recording and playback are done directly to your hard disk. Creative Soundo'LE also supports compressed wave files. You may record or play compressed wave files using Soundo'LE. The graphical Signal Indicator will not be updated when you use compressed files. 5. ADVANCED SIGNAL PROCESSOR All the Advanced Signal Processor files (*.ASP) MUST be located in the Sound Blaster 16 ASP sub directory (example C:\SB16\ASP) when using any compression technology. 6. VOICE UTILITIES The following are limitations and capabilities of the Voice Utilities in this software package. READVOC .EXE - Able to recognise ALAW, uLAW and ADPCM compressed files. WAV2VOC .EXE - Able to support ALAW, uLAW and ADPCM compressed files. VOC2WAV .EXE - Does not support 16-bit compressed files. VOCN2O .EXE - Does not support 16-bit compressed files. 7. SOUND DRIVERS INSTALLATION UTILITY (INSTDRV.EXE) The program INSTDRV.EXE will not change the default DMA and IRQ settings of the CTWMEM.DRV and CTWDSK.DRV drivers. Current applications using these two drivers obtain the hardware settings of the card from the BLASTER environment string when you run the application. 8. MAXIMUM RECORDING RATES FOR SOUND BLASTER 16 The sampling rate used for recording is largely influenced by your computer's main processor. To obtain 16-bit digital audio using Windows, the following maximum recording rates are suggested. ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÑÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º SYSTEM ³ RECORDING RATE º ÌÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍØÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ͹ º ³ º º 386 and above ³ Stereo - 44KHz º º ³ Mono - 44KHz º º ³ º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÅÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º ³ º º 386 SX and below ³ Stereo - 22KHz º º ³ Mono - 44KHz º º ³ º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÏÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ To obtain optimal performance, try configuring the sound card to use a 16-bit DMA (Direct Memory Access) channel under Windows. Refer to your Sound Blaster 16 Getting Started Manual for more information on setting up the sound card to use a 16-bit DMA channel. 9. MANUAL ERRATA A.
